How to Achieve a Balanced Diet

IMG_3013Of late I have been very lethargic and lazy when it comes to eating, exercising and my beauty routine. Basically since I had exams and because of the heat I was in no mood, but sadly that has taken a toll on my skin and my health. So I’m back into the action by restarting my beauty routine and sticking to a new balanced diet because nutrition is just as important as fitness. It’s a pretty simple one because I don’t have a gym membership and due to college I can’t devote so much time to it, but I’ll know the results in a couple of weeks.

6:00 AM: As soon as I wake up I drink a cup of lukewarm water (or room temperature, but lukewarm is recommended) with lemon juice and sometimes honey as well. What this does is give a little wake-up call to your body before you eat breakfast and start your day. The lemon juice and honey provides hydration, helps with constipation, pumps up your immune system and also freshens up your skin! You can read the other benefits:

6:30 AM: I usually have breakfast about half-an hour after having the lemon water, but usually that’s because I finish my morning routine in that time. I never thought breakfast mattered but now I’m focused on having a healthy breakfast. I alternate between:

  •  Cereal – whole grain or bran cereal, but I also indulge in some delicious chocolate cereal from time to time. (
  •   Low-fat yogurt with bananas and apples
  •  Eggs & toast ( whole wheat bread)
  •  Oatmeal with a variety of nuts
  •  Tea with digestive biscuits – you can add some lemon, honey or ginger to your tea for an extra nutritious kick!

Here are some scrumptious recipes for breakfast:

7:00 AM Now is the time to go for a little morning stroll around your neighborhood or society, but sadly since I commute by college bus I don’t have time for this. For those of you who can fit this into their schedule, take a small brisk walk for about half-an hour to get yourself pumped up for the day. Even mild exercise makes a difference to your day!

[During this time its best that you drink water whenever you can, don’t force yourself to chug down two whole bottles to get through the next couple of hours. Have a bottle next to you at all times and drink gradually!]

10:30 AM: It’s now time for a small snack because your breakfast is just about digested. The best and convenient snack is an apple! I was never a fan of apples, but my mom insisted I eat one everyday but I never asked why. Turns out apples are SO healthy for you. Not only do they help make your teeth a little whiter, they prevent gallstones, boost your immune system, help with constipation, and so much more. This is because of the anti-oxidants present in apples. I now comprehend the saying “An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.” But along with the apples I also eat a variety of nuts such as cashews, walnuts, almonds, raisins, and pistachios just for some more fiber and to fill my stomach!

1-1:30 PM Lunch is totally up to you and the time allotted for you; anywhere from 12-1:30 is good to have lunch. You can take your favorite lunch items but just add a little healthy element to it. I used to buy lunch at the cafeteria but they cake all their meals with so much oil I eventually got sick of it. I bring food from home which consists of some rice, roti’s (Indian style bread), veggies, and yogurt. But now I take roti’s mostly every day with different veggies and yogurt because that’s less starchy, less oily and is very filling.  Here are some healthy lunch ideas that are easy to make and even healthier to eat!

[Some bloggers and dieticians recommend that you take a multi-vitamin before you have lunch, which is optional. The B-12 and other vitamins will help absorbs the nutrients in the lunch you eat! I’ve decided to do this on alternate days because I always tend to go overboard with these things]

3-4:00 PM Have an afternoon snack to reenergize yourself! Don’t overstuff yourself though. Keep it a small sized portion. My love for tea is unending, so I drink about two glasses of tea with digestive biscuits. But I’m trying to expand my options by having high-fiber protein or granola bars, veggies with hummus, or non-fat yogurt with berries.

6-7:00 PM: EXERCISE! Doesn’t have to be hard core fitness, just get up, get active, and get moving Researchers say that by just walking half-an-hour every day you can lose weight and become more active. This is the alternative to sitting around ALL day and not giving your legs a chance to run free! Download your favorite music, put those earphones on, and start walking!

8-8:30 PM The mistake we commonly make is to stuff ourselves during dinner as well and while that’s fulfilling at that moment it’s not good for you really. What happens is you eat so much so your body takes a long time to digest it, BUT you don’t let your body have that time especially if you sleep in an hour or so after you dinner. You body will stop digesting and the brain will ready the body for sleep ergo no digestion = food stored as fat. Another reason to avoid eating dinner very late 8-8:30 should be the max time to eat your dinner. I eat some rice with veggies, roti’s, pasta, sandwiches, anything really just as long as it’s in moderation and I don’t eat more than I actually need. 9:30 PM Indulge in a light, healthy dessert such as dark chocolate, yogurt (can be flavored) or some yummy fruits. I mix and match with these but sneak in some other goodies once in a while!

10:30-11 PM This should be your ideal time to hit they hay. Before this take a nice tall glass of water to refresh your body once and for all before it hits deeps slumber. You know the drill, get 7-8 hours of sleep and your mornings will be pleasant ones!

Preview: Summer Look-book

Here is a preview of a recent fashion photo-shoot I did. I actually did these about a month ago, but I was busy with other things for a while, but now I am back!

This summer look-book is based on this maxi skirt I purchased on Jabong. I absolutely love it. I will feature about five outfits in this upcoming look-book, it’s my first so I am very excited to share this with you guys. But more importantly I really want feedback from you guys, honest feedback: on what I can do to make it better, & your general thoughts!

Jewelry: I made the blue bracelet as  DIY sort of thing, I combined the friendship bracelet with a large white pendant, that I found at a local crafts store. The white and grey bracelets are from my friends online jewelry store Trinkets Handmade Jewellery, and the aquamarine ring is from a set of rings I purchased for 2 pounds at Primark in London

I purchased the maxi skirt online on Jabong, and it was my first ever online purchase and I have to say it was so easy. I never tried it and I was a fool not to. The COD (cash on delivery) option is so easy and it’s worth the extra money for shipping because you avoid the fuss of having to use credit cards and such. I will definitely do a post on online portals that offer great deals and have a great collection of clothes!

Simple Sundays: The 101 on Face Masks



I look forward to Sundays, usually after a hectic week all we really need is a day to unwind and relax. Sunday is my pamper day, I treat myself to home-made facials, hair treatments, foot baths, you name it! But While applying my face mask I realized the detailed process to have an effective result. There are so many mistakes we often make while mixing a simple face mask. Follow these rules and you won’t go wrong.

  1. Say good-bye to Make-up: There’s nothing more important than removing your make-up before you apply any mask. This will unclog your pores so that they may be cleaned and refreshed. After this you should splash your face with lukewarm water or dip a small washcloth into the water and pat your skin. This will help loosen your pores and help them open up more in order to absorb the contents of your mask for a more powerful effect.
  2. Read: The instructions on the box are there for a reason. Take the time out to slowly read them because they will determine the effectiveness of the mask.
  3. Test it: Apply a dab of the mask onto any part of your skin to test it out, near your jaw or even on your hand. Some products may cause irritation if your skin is very sensitive, so do this to prevent a reaction.
  4. Exfoliate: Your make-up isn’t the only layer that is blocking your pores from getting cleaned thoroughly. We tend to have a buildup of dead skin cells, so exfoliating is a must, especially before you apply masks or indulge in facial treatments. You have plenty of exfoliators right at home: oatmeal, sugar, coffee grains.
  5. It’s all about the time: You should accurately time how long you leave your facial mask on. There’s a reason why the instructions state a specific time. Sometimes if you leave it on for too long your skin can become dry, or it may cause irritation.  Just set an alarm on your phone so that you don’t forget!
  6. Pat Dry: Roughly drying your face can cause wrinkles and irritate your skin. So after you’ve washed your face with warm water, pat your face dry.

Voila! you can now enjoy the rest of your lazy Sunday!

Biotique Bio Almond Soothing & Nourishing Eye Cream Review



If you’re like me and suffer from dark under eye circles, I’m sure you’ve ventured into the wide range of creams, concealers, treatments, you name it! It’s pain to understand the ingredients that are in the products and how effective they can be. I recently decided to give under eye creams another go, I bought Biotique Bio Almond Soothing & Nourishing Eye Cream. Now I always seem to have high hopes when it comes to beauty products because the way they advertise these things makes them seem almost magical. I never tried any products in the Biotique line before, but I was very excited to try this under-eye cream due to the ingredients listed on the back, of course Biotique prides themselves on using all natural ingredients.

This product is overall very moisturizing, and I believe it’s best for those with dry skin or combination skin. But having oily skin didn’t help my cause as the cream would sometimes not get absorbed by my pores, rather it blocked them. So apply in small amounts, so that the cream can spread evenly and you won’t over moisturize.

I found that the cream reduced any puffiness around my eyes taking the dramatic look of my under eye bags, especially in the morning, and provided the much needed moisture that my under eye area needed. In terms of reducing the darkness of my under-eyes, I could see a decrease in the intensity of the darkness under my eyes but obviously not a complete disappearance.

The cons would be that it can be very creamy so you should always apply only a small amount, and you must avoid getting it into your eyes because it will burn. I’ve experienced this once or twice and it’s not a fun thing, let me tell you that!


This product should last anyone about 2 months, unless you apply it more than twice a day. I regularly applied it in the morning and night to have some consistency.

Personally I don’t think I will be using this product due to fact that it doesn’t go with my skin type. But I certainly recommend this to those who have dry skin    or combination skin as it offers a lot of moisture.
